Orbital Communications Outpost MOC | Free MOC Instructions

A communications building does not need a large footprint to become an important part of a space base. The Orbital Communications Outpost MOC is my original custom MOC, built around a tall rooftop signal silhouette and a compact technical structure. Free step-by-step image instructions are available on this page.
The model combines a white and gray station body with dark blue framing, angled transparent blue windows, a large front hatch, a side ladder, rooftop railings, a dish, and a tall antenna mast. It can stand alone as a small sci-fi display or become the communications section of a larger futuristic facility.
A Signal Station Defined by Its Roofline
The strongest visual feature sits above the building itself. A raised dish occupies the center of the roof while the narrow antenna mast extends much higher, giving the Orbital Communications Outpost MOC an immediately recognizable communications profile.
Black railings frame the rooftop equipment and help separate the technical area from the lighter walls below. Because so much of the model's character is concentrated at the top, it remains visually distinctive even when placed beside larger vehicles or structures.

Compact Architecture for a Busy Space Base
The front of the outpost uses several layers rather than one flat wall. A band of sloped transparent blue windows sits beneath the roof, while the dark blue frame around the central gray hatch creates a strong focal point lower down.
Smaller details prevent the side walls from feeling empty. The ladder gives the roof a visible access route, while the control graphic, exterior markings, gray lower section, and small yellow side element add contrast around the main structure.
Visual Checkpoints While Building the Outpost
Use the image instructions to recreate the complete station as shown, then compare the build against the details that give this MOC its identity:
- The dark blue frame surrounding the large gray front hatch.
- The angled transparent blue window band directly below the roof.
- The rooftop railings, central communication dish, and tall antenna mast.
- The exterior ladder and smaller side details that break up the walls.
Keeping these areas aligned is especially useful because the design depends on the contrast between the solid rectangular station body and the thinner equipment rising above it.
Turn the Outpost into a Larger Mission Site
The station can mark a dedicated communications sector inside a larger sci-fi compound. For another signal-focused installation, place it near the Contact Station with Antenna and Generator MOC. Its open equipment layout creates a useful contrast with the enclosed architecture of this outpost.
A nearby Power Core Station can establish a separate technical zone, while the Space Cargo MOC can add a supply area beside the building.
For a larger research setting, the Ice Planet Research Station MOC adds another dish-equipped facility with a very different open-platform design.
The Orbital Communications Outpost MOC gets its character from vertical details rather than overall size. The high antenna, rooftop dish, framed entrance, windows, ladder, and technical exterior make it a useful building for giving a futuristic layout a clear communications point.
