Lunar Communications Station MOC – Free Instructions
A moon base feels more purposeful when it has a dedicated place for signals, tracking, and contact. The Lunar Communications Station is my original custom MOC, built around a large roof-mounted dish and a compact blue operations module. The station combines an enclosed structure with several pieces of exterior equipment, giving it the character of a working communications outpost rather than a single antenna. A tall mast, control console, transparent yellow details, pipework, a secondary antenna, and a crew member complete the scene. It is a natural fit for lunar layouts, retro space displays, exploration bases, and compact shelf scenes.
The Roof Dish Does Most of the Storytelling
The large gray parabolic dish is the feature that defines this Lunar Communications Station MOC. Positioned above the blue station structure and angled toward the sky, it creates a recognizable communications silhouette even when the model is viewed from a distance.
A transparent yellow element at the center of the dish adds a small but effective focal point. That same accent color appears elsewhere around the station, helping visually connect the large receiver with the equipment below.
A Communications Deck, Not Just a Dish
The lower platform gives the model much of its technical character. Beside the main structure is a sloped control panel, a transparent yellow-covered section, exterior tubing, and a smaller upright antenna. A tall gray mast adds another vertical signal element without competing with the much wider dish.
The blue enclosed section gives the station enough architectural weight to feel like part of a permanent lunar base. Its large dark window contrasts with the exposed equipment outside, while the crew member and handheld communication gear help turn the build into a small scene rather than an empty installation.
Recreating the Station with the Image Instructions
The image instructions let you recreate the complete station as shown, including the blue structure, raised dish, communication mast, exterior control area, platform, and smaller equipment details.
One of the useful design ideas to watch while building is the division of color and shape. Blue establishes the main station, light gray separates the communication hardware from the structure, and transparent yellow creates repeated highlights across the technical equipment. The tall dish and mast then rise above the lower platform to give the finished MOC a much larger visual presence than its footprint suggests.
Expand the Signal Network into a Larger Moon Base
This station can become the communications center of a wider space layout. A nearby Ice Planet Research Station MOC can add another technical destination, while the Power Core Station can give the base a separate utility area.
For activity around the station, the Ice Planet Scout Walker can introduce a mobile exploration element, while Space Cargo can suggest equipment arriving for the outpost. You can also place the Contact Station with Antenna and Generator farther away as a secondary relay point.
Used alone, the Lunar Communications Station MOC has a strong display silhouette thanks to its oversized dish and tall antenna equipment. Inside a larger moon base MOC, it provides an obvious communications landmark around which vehicles, research modules, cargo areas, and other technical builds can be arranged.
