Ice Planet Crystal Lab MOC – Free Building Instructions
Share
A towering transparent red chamber gives this Ice Planet Crystal Lab MOC an immediate purpose: this is a place built around examining and containing a mysterious crystal sample. The chamber dominates the scene, while the surrounding controls and equipment turn it into a compact research setup rather than a simple display tank.
This is my original custom MOC, designed for frozen sci-fi bases, research facilities, and Ice Planet displays. Free step-by-step image instructions are available on this page.
A laboratory built around the crystal chamber
The tall transparent chamber is the visual center of the model. Inside, the dark crystal-shaped structure remains visible through the red shell, creating a strong contrast with the blue and white laboratory equipment around it.
Beside the chamber is an articulated mechanical arm, while the opposite side holds a sloped workstation with a green display, keypad, antenna, and additional controls. A researcher figure with a handheld instrument and a separate equipment module in front of the station complete the scene.
Turning one crystal into an Ice Planet mission
This model can give a larger frozen-world layout a clear destination. A rover can return from an exploration mission with a newly discovered sample, researchers can examine it inside the chamber, and nearby stations can provide communication or technical support.
That makes the Crystal Lab particularly useful when several small space MOCs are displayed together. Instead of having unrelated vehicles and equipment, the laboratory can become the reason those vehicles are exploring the surrounding terrain.

Following the Ice Planet Crystal Lab instructions
The step-by-step images show how to recreate the complete Crystal Lab as displayed, including the blue and white platform, large transparent chamber, mechanical arm, research console, upper controls, antenna, separate equipment unit, and surrounding details.
The contrast between the large cylindrical chamber and the smaller technical assemblies is an important part of the finished look. When building, the images also make it easier to follow the positioning of the chamber, workstation, and side equipment as they come together into one compact laboratory scene.
Expand the research sector beyond the lab
The Crystal Lab has a natural connection to the Ice Planet Research Station MOC, which can provide another scientific and communication area nearby.
For exploration beyond the base, the Ice Planet Scout Rover MOC and Ice Planet Scout Walker can help create a wider surface mission around the laboratory.
If you want to develop the scientific side of the display further, the Futuristic Containment Chamber MOC adds another experimental structure, while the Power Core Station can extend the technical area of the facility.
A compact centerpiece for a frozen sci-fi display
The Ice Planet Crystal Lab is small enough to work as its own display, but its strongest role is as the scientific centerpiece of a larger frozen outpost. The oversized red chamber provides the focal point, while the researcher, console, robotic equipment, and surrounding devices make the scene feel active and purposeful.
Build it as a standalone laboratory or place it at the center of an expanding Ice Planet research sector filled with exploration vehicles, communication equipment, power systems, and other free MOC builds.
