The Space Ice Radar Base is my original custom MOC, designed as a compact frozen-world communication outpost with radar equipment, a mobile rover, and a space explorer. Free step-by-step image instructions are available on this page.

This small space base MOC works especially well in an ice planet layout, a remote research station, or a larger sci-fi display. Its blue, gray, black, and transparent orange color scheme gives the station a clear identity while helping each antenna and sensor stand out.

About This Custom MOC

The Space Ice Radar Base is built around a curved dark platform containing several separate communication and monitoring systems. The largest transparent orange radar dish sits above a raised blue-and-gray control structure, creating the main focal point of the station.

Beside it, a tall orange antenna mast and two cylindrical technical units add height and variety. Ribbed light-gray sections, blue bands, black equipment surfaces, control panels, and smaller signal components give the outpost a busy scientific appearance without requiring a large footprint.

A small wheeled rover carries another orange dish away from the main platform. Together with the equipped space explorer, it helps the finished model feel like an active monitoring station rather than an isolated piece of machinery.

What You Can Build from the Instructions

The image sequence helps you recreate the main curved base, raised control station, large radar dish, tall signal mast, cylindrical sensor equipment, and the smaller mobile radar rover.

These separate assemblies combine into one complete space communication scene. The different heights also keep the model visually interesting: the low rover fills the foreground, the main dish defines the center, and the antenna mast creates a strong vertical feature behind the equipment.

How the Radar Network Shapes the Scene

One of the most useful details in this MOC is the variety of signal equipment. The broad main dish can represent long-range scanning, while the tall mast suggests communication with distant vehicles or another base. The elevated circular receiver and smaller sensor unit add extra monitoring points around the platform.

The rover extends that idea beyond the station itself. It can be positioned beside the main base, sent across a frozen landscape, or placed near another vehicle as a portable scanner. This gives the model several storytelling possibilities while keeping the complete outpost compact.

Building Experience

The model is divided into clear subassemblies, including the curved platform, dish support, cylindrical towers, antenna mast, and rover. Building these sections separately makes it easier to arrange the equipment and keep the transparent orange signal elements visible at different heights.

The final placement of the dishes is especially important to the finished silhouette. Angling them in slightly different directions helps the station look active and gives each radar assembly its own role within the scene.
