Haunted Cemetery Gates MOC | Free Building Instructions

A haunted graveyard needs a strong entrance, and this Haunted Cemetery Gates MOC is designed to make the boundary itself part of the story. Tall stone pillars, black gate panels, a curved overhead structure, glowing-style lantern details, bats, and carved pumpkins turn the entrance into a complete Halloween display rather than a simple pair of gates.
This is my original custom MOC, created as a gothic cemetery entrance that can stand on its own or become the front edge of a larger haunted layout. Free step-by-step image instructions are available on this page.
A Gate That Sets the Mood Before the Graveyard Begins
The main feature is the tall black entrance framed between two grey stone pillars. The paired gate panels create a strong vertical pattern, while the large curved shapes above them push the design toward a more dramatic gothic silhouette.
The overhead structure adds another layer of dark ornamentation. Curved black elements, small hanging details and irregular decorative shapes keep the top from feeling like a simple architectural arch. Instead, it looks like an entrance that belongs at the edge of an old haunted cemetery.
On either side, tall black lamp posts extend the composition outward. Each is topped with a bat detail, helping connect the lighting elements to the Halloween theme without distracting from the central gate.

Pumpkins Bring the Halloween Story to the Stone Pillars
The orange pumpkins are small details, but their placement makes them difficult to miss. Each one sits above a stone pillar beside the entrance, creating a bright contrast against the otherwise dark gate and grey masonry.
That contrast is useful in a spooky display. The black ironwork establishes the haunted atmosphere, while the pumpkins immediately give the entrance a seasonal Halloween identity. Their matching positions also help frame the opening and draw the eye toward the center of the MOC.
The brown ground underneath keeps the entrance from feeling detached from its setting. It gives the stonework, gates and lamp posts a shared base and provides a natural starting point for extending a path or cemetery terrain beyond the model.

The finished model contains several visually distinct areas: the ground section, stone supports, paired gate panels, tall side lamps and the decorated arch above the entrance. The step-by-step images below show how these parts come together to form the complete Haunted Cemetery Gates MOC.
Pay attention to the curved elements around the upper arch and the smaller decorative pieces around the gate. These details are what give the entrance its irregular haunted character and separate it visually from a clean city or park gate.
Build the Scene Beyond the Gates
The entrance can become the starting point for a much larger spooky layout. A path behind the gates could lead toward a Haunted Gravestone build, creating the impression that the cemetery continues beyond the arch.
A spooky Coffin build can add another graveyard detail deeper inside the scene, while the Haunted Street Corner offers a useful direction for expanding the environment outside the cemetery entrance.
For a stronger seasonal theme, the Pumpkin Scarecrow MOC can introduce another orange focal point elsewhere in the display without repeating the architecture of the gate.
Make the Entrance the Beginning of the Story
What makes this Haunted Cemetery Gates MOC useful is that it does not need a complete building behind it to establish a setting. The closed-in stone supports, tall iron-style gate, bats, pumpkins and dark arch already suggest that something very different waits on the other side.
You can keep the model as a standalone Halloween display or use it as the front boundary of a growing haunted graveyard. For more original models and free image instructions, explore the Build Hub model collection and continue building the scene beyond the gates.
