Floating Sorcerer’s Desk MOC – Free Building Instructions

A sorcerer’s workspace does not need to stay on the floor. This Floating Sorcerer’s Desk MOC turns an arcane study into a suspended fantasy scene, with a dark curved desk hovering above candles, twisting magical energy and translucent spell effects.

This is my original custom MOC, created as a fantasy display centered on the unusual floating desk and the collection of magical objects arranged around it. Free step-by-step image instructions are available on this page. Designed by Guy Gabizon | Original HTBI-MOC Design

A Sorcerer’s Desk Suspended by Magic

The floating structure is what defines the model. Instead of treating the desk as ordinary furniture, the design raises it above the base on narrow transparent supports while curved translucent elements spread underneath it. From the front, these details make the desk appear to be held above the ground by magical energy.

The dark brown and black desk creates a strong visual divide between the workspace above and the spell activity below. Gold circular accents and the hanging shield detail decorate the front without hiding the curved shape of the desk.

Books, Flames and Arcane Objects Crowd the Work Surface

The upper half of the model is deliberately busy. Stacked books occupy one side of the desk, while an open book sits upright near the center. Several flame elements rise around the workspace, joined by a skull and a bright translucent pink crystal formation.

These objects make the desk feel like a place where magical research is actively taking place rather than a piece of empty fantasy furniture. The different heights also give the silhouette more variety, from the tall lantern-like assembly on one side to the book stack on the other.

The Spell Continues Below the Desk

Much of the character of this MOC comes from what happens underneath the main structure. Purple and transparent curved elements descend toward the base, surrounded by circular translucent forms and several candles at different heights.

That lower layer changes the way the model reads as a display. The desk, spell effects and ground details become one connected composition, with the magical activity visually moving from the tabletop down toward the base.

Build the Floating Sorcerer’s Desk from the Image Instructions

Follow the building images below to recreate the model section by section. Pay particular attention to the relationship between the raised desk, its transparent supports and the curved spell elements underneath, since those assemblies create the floating appearance that gives this MOC its identity.

The smaller tabletop details can then complete the scene, adding the books, flames, crystal, skull and other visible objects around the sorcerer’s workspace.

Build Out the Sorcerer’s Magical Workspace

If you want to turn the floating desk into part of a larger magical environment, the Wizard’s Arcane Workbench MOC can add another experiment-filled workstation to the scene.

For a potion-making area, combine it with the Wizard Potion Table. The Potion Cabinet MOC can extend the same setting with storage for books, bottles and magical ingredients.

You can also browse the Build Hub model collection for more free MOC instructions and ideas that can be combined into larger custom displays.
