10 Inspiring F-117 LEGO MOCs: Instructions, Tips and Ideas

LEGO F-117 Nighthawk MOCs — Ideas, Tips & 10 Awesome Builds

When you try to turn the F-117 into LEGO, you’re taking on one of the trickiest shapes in aviation. The Nighthawk isn’t all smooth curves—it’s a stealthy mosaic of razor-sharp facets, compound angles and sliding panels. That’s great news for LEGO, because bricks love straight lines—yet it’s also a trap: if your edges don’t meet cleanly, the model looks “soft” instead of stealthy. A good F-117 MOC starts with the silhouette: long diamond nose, clipped delta wings, and that signature two-facet canopy. From there, think like Skunk Works—use stacked plates to create thin, layered armor; hide studs with SNOT brackets so each face reads as a single plane; and break big angles into convincing smaller steps using hinge plates and wedge tiles.

Detailing is subtle on a real Nighthawk, so restraint wins. Swap glossy for matte where you can, keep color noise low (black with hints of dark bluish gray), and suggest panel breaks with tile gaps rather than stickers. Functional features—retractable tricycle gear, opening bomb bay doors, and a tilting canopy—add drama without clutter. Finally, scale matters: micros are perfect for desk displays and formation lineups; minifig scale lets you show off bays, ladders and ground-crew vignettes; midi scales balance part count with presence.

Below you’ll find build tips, idea starters, and then ten hand-picked F-117 MOCs with images. Each entry includes the model name, designer, and a direct link to the instructions.

Build Tips (stealth made brick-friendly)

  • Start with a “facet map.” Sketch the top, side, and 3/4 views; mark where each plane breaks so you can assign brackets/hinges per facet.

  • Layer plates for thin edges. Plate-tile sandwiches give crisp wing and intake lips without bulky bricks.

  • Use mixed hinges. Combine 1×2–1×2 hinges, 2×2 turntables, and clip-bar micro-hinges to “approximate” compound angles across multiple small steps.

  • Hide structure with SNOT. Core = studs-up spine; skins = SNOT panels pinned to that spine for clean, studless faces.

  • Design the stand early. A discrete stand under the engine valley or bomb bay keeps the flat belly uninterrupted and prevents sagging.

  • Plan tolerances. Black parts can be hard to read—insert alignment pins/colored internals you’ll remove late in the build.

Idea Starters (ways to theme your F-117)

  • Test range diorama: blast-proof hangar doors, floodlights, removable service panels.

  • Desert Storm display: add a refueling boom, maintenance carts, and a simple runway strip.

  • Micro squadron: 1/110–1/200 scale line-up with other stealth icons (B-2, F-22, SR-71).

  • Alt-build challenge: convert a mainstream set (e.g., a Star Wars fighter) into a stealth jet using only its parts.

  • “What-if” liveries: low-viz gray prototype scheme or commemorative markings using printed tiles.
