LEGO MOCs: Beach House Inspiration

There’s something magical about building a beach house in LEGO. You can almost hear the gulls and feel the sun while you click together white balustrades, sand-colored plates, and shimmering trans-blue tiles. Beach MOCs are a perfect playground for combining architecture with landscaping and storytelling: sun-bleached boardwalks, swaying palms, paddleboards leaned against a pier, and a glassy infinity pool that “meets” the ocean. Whether you prefer a clean modern villa with curtain walls or a stilted shack perched over rockwork, beach houses let you practice advanced techniques—SNOT for horizontal wood siding, cheese-slope mosaics for decking, and layered water effects using clear plates and tiles. They’re also wonderfully modular: start with a tight bungalow, then extend it with a jetty, a lifeguard tower, or a seafood kiosk as your parts (and imagination) grow.

When planning your build, think about how minifigures will move through the space—inside/outside flow is everything in a coastal design. Long sliders and transparent panels create airy living rooms; spiral stairs or a ladder can lead to a roof deck with a grill and lounge chairs. Use tan, nougat, and medium nougat for “sand,” with olive and dark tan for dunes. Mix trans-light blue, trans-clear, and dark blue to get depth in the water; stagger plates underneath to suggest waves lapping the shore. Don’t forget micro-details that sell the scene: a surfboard rack, towels on a line, shells made from 1x1 round tiles, or a kayak tied to a post. A little motion goes a long way too—hinged docks, swing-open walls, or removable floors turn your static model into a hands-on, vacation-ready diorama.

Tips for building a great LEGO beach house

  • Start with a strong base: layered plates over a few bricks of depth let you recess water and raise dunes for realism.

  • Use SNOT for siding: 1×2 grille tiles, headlight bricks, and 1×2 log bricks make convincing timber cladding.

  • Glazing tricks: stack trans-clear panels with 1×1 round bars as mullions for modern floor-to-ceiling windows.

  • Water texture: alternate trans-light blue tiles with plates; leave occasional studs exposed for “ripples.”

  • Outdoor living: add pergolas (bar + clip), hammocks (minifig nets), and sunshades (curved slopes/tiles).

  • Access & play: keep floors detachable; hinge big window walls so interiors are easy to reach.

Ideas for beach-house MOCs

  • Modern glass villa on stilts with a cantilevered pool and an open great room.

  • Surfer’s shack with weathered boards, rack of boards, and a tiny pier.

  • Dune cottage nestled into landscaping—grasses (leaf elements), driftwood, and a sandy footpath.

  • Boathouse bungalow with rails for launching a dinghy and crab traps on the dock.

  • Resort micro-bay: several small villas around a communal pool and bar—great for city layouts.

  • Architect homage: translate a favorite real-world coastal landmark into LEGO proportions.
